.358 BFG accuracy
« on: August 07, 2010, 01:20:12 PM »
Shot the Savage/McGowen .358 BFG this morning just to verify my hunting load for the coming deer season. Went into 1 inch at 200 yards, Right on for elevation and about .75 right windage. 200 grain Barnes TSX @ 2640 F/S. Thanks to our sponsor Bryan for all his help in making this project a success. Can't wait for deer season.

Thanks for the feedback!

Our McGowen drop in Savage barrels got Speedy's stamp of approval last week in Trinidad.

He did a demo of their video borescope and decided to take a look at one of the 358 BFG Savage barrels I brought for the bedding class I was taking.

It had the best chambering job of all the barrels present in the class (Bartlein, Krieger, Shilen, a factory Cooper and a couple of factory tubes).

A picture that was captured of the throat on a new unfired barrel.

Internal finish of the same barrel:

Shoot, that ain't nothin.  Every beat up, 50 year old Winchester 30-30 will shoot 1/4" groups at 600 yards and drop elk at 500 yards with one shot, all day long.  Or so I hear.   ;D ;)  Seriously though, that is awesome.  Should flatten them whitetails like a sledge hammer.
Aim small, miss small!!!

I am really, really, happy with my rifle. I have had excellent results with Barnes bullets in the past and when this rifle/barrel combo shot it so well, it was iceing on the cake. I can take this outfit anywhere it is legal and hunt with it. Casull I really, really want one of those Winchesters also!
