pt, brassie, hares ear- these are the ones i have the best luck on and cover a wider range of naturals. i fish them more because i have more faith in them.

my favorite are the drys,  especially the wulff patterns.   these patterns agree with my tying style and they are also very durable.    one of my favorites is the streamer "jock scott" just cause its so pretty.

Doc Spratley - In sizes 8-6 I use it for all types of trout. A slow troll on a lake and it makes a very effective search pattern, In rivers on a sink tip it's deadly on Rainbows, Cutthroat, Browns and Dollies. Along the beach's it's a good standard for searun's cruising for salmon fry.
I also tie a sparser pattern on an oversized hook and find it effective on late Winter run or summer run Steelhead. I like fishing it on a full floating line with a long leader.

Normally tied black with silver rib. Other variations have olive bodies with gold ribbing. The pattern represents nothing particular but a little of everything and it's easy to tie.

Emerging Caddis!  I've used them in many Montana streams, rivers and lakes as well as some in Wyoming, Idaho and the famous Bow River in Alberta, Canada.  In each and every location the caddis out performed the local favorites.

Muddler Minnow! I have used them as a dry, damp, sunk, waking, and streamer pattern for years in sizes up to #4 and down to #10. With different color bodies and substituting peacock for turkey, I've come up with several combo's that take both Trout and Salmon readily. It is my "go to" pattern when on new water!

Wooly Bugger...used it a lot when I lived in Wyoming for trout.  Use it a TON in Florida for various species.

Dry, dry, dry. I really have to be getting skunked to fish anything else. I use mostly Adams and RCs. They are easy to tie and atch fish to answer the why.

My favorite fly is the Russian River Fly. I have used this fly to catch all five different types of salmon including my biggest knig so far. Another reason I like that fly so well is that it is real easy to tie and it just produces more fish for me than other fly I have tried so far.

If I had to pick a favorite it would most likely be a Carey Special.  I've probably caught the most fish on that pattern and definately the biggest fish I've caught on flys.  Works well on rivers and lakes.  Easy to tie.  

I've even tied carey specials on spinning gear with a bobber to river drift and trolled it effectively.

Of course I'd still like to have a few peacock half backs, wooley buggers, Adams, Elk Hair Caddis and Gray hackles.. though.

As posted above the Doc Spratley worked well on Cuts last month.

Wooly bugger, wooly worm, elk hair caddis, wet royal coachman, popper, ants, and pheasant tail.  There are others, but these seem to get the most use and they are the ones I find myself tying the most.

I hate Wooly Buggers, but they work SOooooooo Well.......Best flies are the ones that are simple to tie in tan, olive, black, and brown. Small to smaller!
