Walker Problems
« on: August 19, 2010, 09:47:56 AM »
Just bought a new Uberti Walker. This gun fowls so bad between the Arbor and the Cylinder that after 6 shots the cylinder will not turn. I have tried every lube known different powders and charges.  The cylinder will freeze to the Arbor so tight I have to use a lead hammer to remove it.

I have been using Cap & Ball Shooters for most of 50 years, but never nothing like this one.  Is it the Walker or something else.  I have an old Uberti Whitneyville using the same load of 50 grs. 3f Wano and balls over lubed or wads or nothing.  The Whitneyville is flawless thru 50 or more rounds. I have a number of Colt Clones Rogers & Spencers, Rugers Etc. This Walker has me buffloed. Help needed. ???

Yes that all checks out.  I am getting sever gas cutting on the Arbor just ahead of the first forward gas seal ring at 12:00 o'clock.  I fired only 36 rounds today and the gas cutting got worse.  I have BP handguns that are over 40 years old and show no gas cuts. ???

I have heard Uberti has a good reputation for customer service.  I would contact them about the problem, and ask for a return shipping label to return for replacement or repair.  I own and shoot several BP revolvers, but I am not an expert.  Gas cutting in a BP revolver is something I have never heard of.  As far as the binding on the arbor, you might want to try using a non petroleum lube like bore butter on the arbor, as it seems to keep the fouling soft, and might prevent the binding.  The gas cutting has me baffled, unless the arbor was made with un hardened, inferior steel, something Uberti is not known for.

lARRY GOOD POINT.  I TRIED A FILE ON THE ARBOR ITS AS SOFT AS BUTTER.  I HAVE SEEN COAT HANGERS THAT WERE HARDER THAN THIS THING.  I FIRED 30 OR 40 ROUNDS AFTER I CLEANED THE ORGINAL CUT. THE ARBOR WAS CUT AGAIN. I WILL TRY RETURNING IT TO UBERTI. THX
