Well, ALL of you folks have been most helpful in this little project.
I am going to make a right turn for now.
I have my Uncle's old 1954 K-22. I am sending it back to S&W for the following:
Rebluing--it sat so long in a leather scabbard, before it became mine, that there is hardly any protection left.
Replacing all springs---just my anal way.
Good cleaning and checking all parts--for replacement as needed.
Action Job on the trigger.
Replace any part that they deem in need--including barrel--but from looking I doubt it.

THEN

Seriously considering a Browning Semi-auto rifle in 22 cal.
Always wanted one and I am sure Jack will agree.

Can’t go wrong with a good K-22. Mine is a ’58 vintage. Great gun, but I find I am using the stainless 617s more. If I ding them, they are easier to fix, and I worry less about them. And the 17 now has collector value and I worry about doing anything to screw that up.

  I just snagged a late 1980's K-22 though it's not my only K-22 or M-18.  The Smith K-22/M-18 and the Kit Gun .22's are all simply great revolvers. Easy to carry,  very accurate and simply CLASSY.  Good decision!

I should have bought the Browning rifle years ago. While I could have afforded it, I thought of it as quite pricey at $90...A Marlin glenfield cost $38 at this time and I had owned one but went with the Rem nylon 66 which I still shoot to this day.

 Don't know what your looking at in the Browning dept but we have a Buckmark 22 rifle in the 'Sporter' (light weight configuration) that's a lot of fun. I bought it for my Son as his though. It's nice & costs more than other options. I usually use a 10/22, Win 190, or my Ruger 77/22, or even a 77/22mag.

I always make a trip by there on my trips from Denver to Houston. They have a great selection of just about any thing  that one might want in the firearm market! Right after Katrina hit and the U.S. Gov`t had initially handed out a couple thousand dollars to victims of Katrina, Collectors Firearms was a very interesting place to visit!!
