I went scouting for Elk yesterday with a friend. We were in an area that used to produce a lot of Elk. Several years ago the Wolves moved in & the Elk moved out. We haven't hunted it for a couple years, but heard FWP took about 75 Wolves out of the area & wanted to see if the Elk were back.
We saw 6 Elk, three in the are we could hunt, but not enough sign to get excited about. We did see 3 Whitetail deer & haven't seen Whitetails in that area before. Saw two Grouse. We got rained on, snowed on, & hailed on. Had a great time, if only the Elk were back.
We spent the afternoon stump shooting. Bob said it looked like my bow had the brace height too high, so we lowered it to 6-3/8 & what a difference. It shot better & was a bunch more quiet. It's a Howard Hill 68", 64@28" Big 5. Bamboo limbs face & back covered with grey glass & Elephant hide grip. It's a beautiful bow & feels more like a 55 to 58lb bow that a 64lb bow. It's smooth, QUIET,& relatively fast.
I managed to break two arrows, rocks that look like stumps are HARD on wooden arrows. It was a good center hit though. The other brode at the head of the Hex Point, I can probably repair it. The other is a goner.
It was a great day in the hills & a lot of fun.
