questions about .54 lyman great plains flintlock
« on: August 27, 2010, 11:12:26 AM »
hello.  i was out looking for my first flintlock today and not knowing anything about them i had some questions.   i found a mint used one for $300   they said it was a 1:32 twist.  my understanding is that is good for sabots and such.   what are the good bad and ugly with these rifles?  thanks.

Someone is confused, the GPR has a 32" barrel with a 1:60" twist, great for round ball.

maybe it was the great plains hunter.  they said it was 1:32 so i guess that was the one.  either way it seems like a great deal.    i know the 1:60 shoots the round ball and the 1:32 shoots the sabots.   is there a big difference in the way they shoot?  i have heard the lyman name before and have been told it is a good one.    thanks again Tim, this is a great site and if it was not for this site i would have never gone with the handi's and i am glad i did.  thanks.
