the "blue book of gun values" shows a model 3 hammerless made from 1908-1942. they don't assign very much value to it-less than $100.00 in excellent condition. not a hard and fast value but maybe in the ball park. for what it's worth and have a good'en neighbor, bubba.

mine is the 23rd edition. all i know is what's printed in it. also says it's similar to model 8 which has same dates and says 12,16,20,24,28gauges and 410. barrels 26 to 32in. plain pistol grip stock, auto ejector. again-i'm no h&r expert-just put down what was printed. for what it's worth, bubba.

I kinda thought the H serial number prefix indicated a 1947 mfr year, but the BB of values doesn't support that with their years of mfr.  ??? Build year info is in the FAQs and Help sticky, A= 1940, B= 1941, and so on. I've got a Model 1908 with an A prefix, that concurs with the year that my grand father bought it for my Dad if that means anything.

In the case of the HAMMERLESS model (manufactured circa 1925 - 41, based upon catalogue entries) - the 'H' prefix indicates, simply - HAMMERLESS.  At the time of introduction, according to H&R advertising - this was a state of the art shotgun with the fastest know "lock time" of any comparable pieces - being equipped with a "military type striker". The old H&R sections of the "BLUE BOOK" contained many erroneous and misleading descriptions.  Starting with the 29th Edition, Bill Goforth and I began correcting those errors by rewriting the entire section based upon 14 years of collecting H&R firearms by me and 12 years of research by Bill.  The 30th and 31st Editions of "THE BLUE BOOK" continue to be updated yearly with new information and pricing.
Jim Hauff

p.s.  I have a 16 ga. with s/n BH946, indicating a Hammerless made in 1941.
