Just purchased a 1976 vintage (Ser# 59XXX) Old frame Contender.  45LC/410 barrel with internal muzzle threads but choke tube was missing.

All the photos I can find of old contenders the choke tube was external extending maybe 1.5" beyond the muzzle.

Would one of the internal chokes available from Magnum Research work?

Found a 44Mag barrel with an external choke tube.  Would this choke tube work on a 45LC/410 barrel.

Can anyone recommend a book or a source of info on these old contenders?

Thanks for any and all replies.

Edit: The chamber will take a 3" .410 and the action closes.  I have seen reference to 2.5" chambers instead.

Thanks for the reply.

The TC customer service stated that they only have the internal choke tube and it will not work in an older octagon barrel.

She also stated that a choke tube off of a 44mag for the Hotshots would not work.

Not a complete loss, she is sending me an owner's manual.

Talked to ED.

He has the choke tube but is waiting on the wrench.

So, will contact him again in about 2 weeks.
