10-24 x3/8  x1/8  nuts

square?  hex?

10-24 = #10 at 24 tpi

some 3/8 thick, others 1/8 thick?

What material?  Stainless, steel, brass, nylon ?

Have you tried McMaster-Carr?

I will assume you checked the specialty nuts at lowes or ACE hardware.

Bolt Depot http://www.boltdepot.com has some, No minimum order.

McMaster-Carr has them (hex) in zinc plated steel, 100 pcs for $1.54.

10-24 x3/8  x1/8

Presumably you mean 10-24 thread, 3/8 across the flats, 1/8 thick; that seems to be the standard size.  As others have asked, square or hex, what material, etc?  They should be available at your nearest Ace hardware.

In my experience, commercial nuts for the smaller threads have only a couple of threads in them so if you need some strength, you would be better off making them yourself.

That's true. The countersink they put on both ends of the thread wipes out a good percentage of them. With 24 tpi you only get three full turns on a 1/8" thick nut, even if they were to omit the c'sink. 32 tpi would only give you four threads.

By starting with a thicker than 1/8" nut and facing/grinding off the c'sink on both sides you can save some time over making them from scratch.
