Smith model 10 M&P Help
« on: August 14, 2010, 07:46:33 AM »
My aunt gave me her late husband's Smith & Wesson .38 Spl. revolver recently.
It is a 5-screw Military and Police model, S/N 689XX with a 6 inch barrel.

Is this handgun safe to shoot with +P loads?
Any guess on the date of manufacture?

As always, any and all help is appreciated!

Probably the fastest and best way to get that info would be to contact S&W.

It will handle factory +P no problem. Be careful of Hot 38 hand loads, they can easiy cross the magnum line. A lot of those will eventually loosen up a Model 10. Keep it clean. Enjoy.

I had one at one time and was told by smith people never never never plus p ammo period.  I never questioned it and shot standard 38 specials and loved it.  Why hotrod a classic and take a chance on screwing up an familiy piece.
