Peep Sight on Encore???
« on: August 30, 2010, 10:24:58 AM »
Has anyone used a peep sight on an Encore rifle or pistol?

Does it help with 'old eyes' problem?  (I'm 57, can NOT focus on rear sight, front sight and target at the same time!)

Does the $35 Williams rear peep sight use existing Encore holes?  Does it work with the existing Encore front sight?

Does any company make a better peep sight?

I have seen a peep sight on an Encore or maybe it was a Contender so I know they're available.  You still have to line up the hole with the front sight and the target though so I don't see how one will help you.  Maybe you should consider a scope?

A 20 inch 500 S&W mag barrel I bought recently came with a fiber optic front and Williams peep rear sight. My eyes don't do well with iron sights either but I shot it well at 50 yards. Grouped good and was easily minute of deer at 100 yards. I did well as long as the light was good. I like hunting at first light and untill it gets dark so I sold them and replaced them with a scope. Yes they did screw down in the existing sight holes.

I own an Encore, muzzleloader shotgun,,and with these old eyes, i couldnt see the sites very good,,blurry, need bi-focals,, I put a peep site on,, made for the encore, and its a world of difference,, They are a direct replacement,, and it has a removable insert ,so you can remove and have a larger site plane..  You will love it,,i do..    Much more accurate also...

I have a williams peep on an encore 209x50 barrel.  I also had it on a 16.5" 45/70 barrel.  It is a really handy setup.  With the 45/70 barrel I had to do a higher front sight to get it to work out but was able to use the factory front sight with the 209x50.   Accuracy is very good and its easy to see even in low light.

A peep sight on the Encore is wonderful.  I think ithe best is the EABCO PeepRib.  It's very much like the Williams sight, but the base is also a weaver-style scope base.  The scope can be installed without disturbing the peep sight.  Very useful product.

Aperture (peep) sights create an extended, focused,  depth of field, allowing our older eyes to see the front sight clearly. In many cases the DoF approaches infinite and the target will be clearer as well.
I have aperture sights (Williams, NEGC, Anschutz) on a number of my firearms;  they work very nicely. For target work, I use an adjustable aperture on the rear and a hooded aperture on the front.

Why I don't have a peep on my Encore I wanted a peep for the Marlin 444 that I just bought. I'm 53 and after shooting at the range with the peep I'll being buying a scope! Just not clear enough for me. I have a Weaver V3 on my Encore 45-70 and love it.Getting old SUCKssss  ???
