Contender or G2???
« on: December 07, 2003, 04:43:53 AM »
My son has the original Contender. He is buying the 23" .17 HRM bbl himself. I plan on ordering the Stock and Forend. Do I purchase a forend for the carbine or the G2? Thanks. sduve

Butt stock will have to be for the original Contender - G2 changed the angle, etc so it won't work.   As for the barrel, 23" is a G2 barrel but I don't own any G2 stuff (never will) so don't know if the forend mounting is the same or not.   Somebody here will know and chime in though.   Chris?

I have a standard contender frame, and a G2 frame. One ( of six) of my barrels doesn't lock up right on the G2 frame.

All of my fore ends, including those for carbines, are interchangeable between the two frames.

The forends for he Contender and G2 are the same.  Only the grip or buttstock is different.    Ed

So does that mean that the TC Contender forend for the 21" carbine bbl will fit a 23" bbl designed after the G2?

You will probably need to do a little sanding on it since the G2 barrels are not tapered. The hole spacing is supposed to be the same. Sanding out the barrel channel should be pretty easy. Use a dowl rod and roll sandpaper around it to get the diameter you want.   KN

Just wanted to throw something out for clarification.  Ladobe indicated that the 23" barrel is for the G2. You say your son has an original contender frame . I was of the understanding that a contender barrel will fit a G2 frame but a G2 barrel will not work on a contender frame. They supposedly put a lug on the G2 barrels and a recess in the G2 frame for this purpose. Just want to make sure your son gets the correct match.
Just another worthless opinion!!

I recall reading somewhere that only the .45 Muzzle loader barrel has the lug and will not fit an old frame. Otherwise barrels are interchangable.

Well, I ordered a G2 bbl and a G2 forend for the old Contender and they fit fine. I will be pickingup some ammo on Sat. It opens and closes just fine. Thanks for the replies. sduve
