Hammer Wont Stay Cocked
« on: September 10, 2010, 08:54:25 PM »
Well I went to function check my 25-06 ultra before heading out in the morning. As the title states the hammer wont stay cocked. Any sugestions? Can I take apart my other reciver and try those parts? Or shoud I just send it in if I send it in. I suppose if it gets sent in may as well get some barrels.

Sounds like the sear notch on the hammer may have broken, you can order a new hammer from Brownell's or Numrich and replace it yourself using Perklo's trigger hone download link in the FAQs, or make arrangements for H&R to repair it on their dime since it's new, toll free (866)776-9292, then call and have barrels added if they have any, doubt they will tho, more than one member has been told they won't have any barrels until next year.  :-\

was wondering if your rifle was factory? I've seen posts where people have had the same problem after recently changing buttstocks. If you have changed buttstocks recently it's possible that your stock bolt is too long, threading into the back of the reciever so far the hammer can't cock. back the stock bolt out 1/2 turn then try to cock it, if it works the fix is a couple flat washers under the head of the stock bolt

Yup, took it apart the notch broke clean off leaving a jagged edge. I will just order the new part. Thanks.

By the way, what ever happened to C W Longshot? Haven't read a post by him recently.

CW plays with other toys this time of year, so he doesn't spend much time online, but he's around, he posted recently in the Casull thread.

Thanks Jim,  ;)
