I bought and shot a new Ruger 22/45 with the fiber optic front sight yesterday.  It came with a red insert installed, there is a plastic container with 5 others.  Why so many extras, and what is the best color?

I was shooting under a cover on a hot sunny day and found the red optic tube would look black under most circumstances, except when directly at a black surface, or at bushes, then I could see the red.

What has been your experience with these sights, and are they an advantage over regular back steel front blade, to black steel back dovetails?

Thanks.

I like fiberoptic when out in the open hunting, but shooting from shade, I like a 1/16" gold bead for object shooting or a flat top blade for target shooting.  8)

I replaced my fiber optic sight with the standard solid post found on some of the other Ruger MK models. I found shooting in the shade had no advantage with the fiber optic front sight and I HATED the "v" notch rear sight-replaced that at the same time with a square notch blade. All parts were ordered off the Ruger web site.
