sscope mounting
« on: September 12, 2010, 09:28:57 AM »
When mounting a scope on a rifle and the front bell is touching the barrell, does that mean I have to get higher rings or should I shoot it first and see how the accuracy is?

You need to be free of contact.  I like to get as low as I can without contact.  I was just checking my supply of rings because I have a scope on order.  I might make a couple of dry runs to make sure I have clearance, and then select the top rings that gives me clearance with the lowest mounting.

Check this chart on ring height.

Mid South also has a fit chart but I do not see a relationship to the size of the Objective, the bell.
