I attended an advocate conference yesterday that included a federal and state legislative update. The audience was predominantly democrats, with healthy representation of liberal ideologues. The speaker was a lobbyist, probably a democrat, and he exceeded my expectations with a factual, comprehensive overview of the challenges facing our State this upcoming legislative session (Texas).
While we aren't facing the apocalypse that other less fiscally responsible states are, things are precarious nonetheless.
Then came the keynote speaker, a retiring establishment Republican. Oh my gosh, the guy sounded like cutting the size and scope of government was satanic. I thought I was listening to Barack himself. I'm certain that he assumed that no conservatives were in the audience, because he trashed many good people, simply because they were willing to hold the line on taxes, and cut entitlement spending. He began derogating, then name calling. He accused certain people of "having no brain", because they hold a different view of the role of government. It was shameful.
Why is it that conservatives would not dare speak ill of a liberal, but will crucify other conservatives with whom they agree most of the time?
