Which One Is Indispensable?

Friends,
If you were put in a position of having to part with every one of your
"deer rifles" except one, which one would you keep? Which one would
be absolutely indispensable and why?

I have a Winchester model 94 30-30 made in 1955 in near mint condition. It
is accurate, compact, has low recoil, and quick handling. It would be my keeper...hands down!

My Remington Model 700 in .30-06 because it does it all.  Good for everything in 95% of the world.  It's highly accurate with factory ammo and beautiful to look at.

i might have to stick with my model 7 243.its not my current deer rifle but its my fav.after 20 sum odd 1 shot kills i decided for a change up but it still resides in the rack  of favorites.

My Ruger No 1 International, 30-06.
Maybe not exactly "indispensable", but if I can't hunt deer with some amount of style, i'll just sleep in.

It would be a Mod 700 or Mod 7, but hard to decide.  Probably a 7-08 or 308, but 270, 280, and 30-06 are great choices as well.  Since I just deer hunt and nothing else, maybe a Mod 7 in 308 would hold me for a lifetime.  I've got all these bases covered so four of the five are unnecessary.

I have a Winchester Model 70 that was bought by my grandfather in 1954, chambered in .270 Winchester...that would be my keeper. It has a lot of family history and personal meaning for me.

...it'll also put 5 shots into a .40 calibre hole at 100 yards.  8)

You did say deer rifle right, so I keep my 270 for elks and mooses. But if I had to choose just one shooter for deer here in open country Wyo it would be my Rem Mowhawk in 6mm. I shoot plenty of deer with 30-30 and 45-70, and other stuff, but they really aren't the best out here where ranges can be long.

 :-\ At times I have sold rifles I felt I didn't "need" always a mistake...they are all indispensable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I recently purchased a single shot Handi-rifle in 357 Mag.  It has never bloodied a thing but is accurate within 50 to 75 yards and I have more cases, primers, powder, bullets, and a revolver for that single caliber.  I would choose this over my cherished and very experienced 270 Win.

  I'd keep my Krieghoff Semper, chambered in 8x57jrs...  It's been my go to gun for many years now.  I've flattened moose, bear and many other big game animals with it, and these days it's my deer rifle.  The last 25 big game animals in it's sights, have all been one shot kills...

The 300wm Tikka would be my last hunting rifle to go. Power and range makes it the most versitile center fire I own. I could get by with the 1895 for 85% of my hunting very easily.

If the chase is the important part of the hunt I have a longbow that really likes to get out in the woods. For simply bringing the meat home the Tikka is the answer.

Have to be the 721 Remington in 270 Win. Has a Weaver 6K Scope, is older than I am and has filled the families freezers more times than I can count. As another member describes his Marlin 336W "when something absolutely, postively has to die today." That is how I feel about that gun.

It struck me as odd that the one I would keep if I could only keep one is one I never use. I alternate between various lever guns, a #1, a BAR and a SRH .454. I never hunt with "boring" old bolt guns but if I could only keep one my compromise of range, power, ammo and reliability would be either my model 7 in .308 or model 70 in 30-06. Glad I don't have to make such a choice.

It would be hard to give up my Marlin 336T but I would keep the M-70 Classic Stainless in 30-06, for the longer range and accuracy.

  I come at this from a different direction.  If I had to put all but one away for safe keeping, it would be my 1952 Savage 99R in Sav-300 cal.  :)

maybe my 7X30 waters mod 94 rifle . An honest 200 + yard rifle and very handy.

Just two weeks ago I sold the one rifle I swore I would never get rid of and it was THE rifle if I ever had to only have one.  It was a tack driver Sako 75 Finnlight in 270.  I had a offer I just had offer I could not refuse.  I guess everything is for sell.  :-[

Everybody's got their version of "hunting" so its interesting to see the responses ...

I'd keep one of my Rossi 92's in .357mag; it'll take anything I'd hunt in conditions and at ranges I'd hunt.

I'd go with my Browning Bar Safari in .270win. It will shoot sub-moa out to 300yds.

It was  very hard to choose between my Tikka T3 30-06 or my Weatherby Vanguard Sub-MOA in 257 weatherby mag. But it would be the 257 weatherby mag.

For the stuff I hunt here in PA it would be my Browning A-bolt .243.  If I lived on the other side of the Mississippi where Elk and Bear were on the list I might say .308 or 30-06.  Here in PA my handgun selection would be .357 but out west .44.
