Stainless or blued what do you think !
« on: September 22, 2010, 01:42:32 AM »
Giday folks , Been lurkin around this handi forum for a while now and the advice and tips on here are just awesome !!!! . I'm based down under in New Zealand and I've been huntin with me faithful old blued nef handi in .243 now ,for the last 10 or so years. But been thinkin about up gradin to a stainless handi .243 but not sure if its gunna be any better for bush stalkin with all that silver bling shineing off the barrel. Do any of you out there spray paint your handis  in camo or matt black to hide the shine . Just can't make up me mind on this one . Do the stainless handi's shoot any better ,have less maintaince? are the triggers any different to lighten that the blued models :-\.Your advice would be appreciated.

Giday from the other Land of Oz(Kansas).Stainless will rust too if not taken care of.Just not as fast.I'd get some paint and try your hand at a new finish.I've painted a couple of mine.Used Krylon BBQ paint.Works for me and no nicks in two years.I don't go out and beat the brush, but they do get to the fiels and used.Slow

I think I'd paint the one you've got and then get a real rifle....the Handi .45-70 ;D  Perhaps I'm wrong, but I believe you have Red Deer that would be worthy of it.  I'm a predjudiced Yankee on Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and the .45-70 works well for about everything here....squirrels to bear.  It is a lot of fun to shoot and find loads for everything from rodents to elephants.

I have stainless in a Handi 30-06 and a .50 Huntsman.  They're a brushed finish and don't really reflect that badly.  The last deer I took with the Huntsman, not only didn't see the rifle, but he never heard it go off. :o

Good hunting and shoot, mate

I just don't like the looks of stainless which isn't something you asked. :D

Welcome! The SS frame isn't stainless, it's matte nickel plated, barrel is SS tho, frame material and components are identical. I'd stick with what you have, works for one of your countrymen just fine.  ;)

Land of OZ is the bigger Island about a couple thousand miles to the West of New Zealand well know for its convict population    ;D  you  make a good point about stainless rusting thro

Thanks for the info about the frame Tim didn't realize it wasn't stainless  .  I'd never ever sell me old trusted friend !in fact they will have to pry it from my cold dead hands before we will ever be parted !I was just thinkin about giving him a mate to share the gun safe with ;D You know a bit like us sittin in camp, around the  fire with your huntin mate of 20 + years.
One Question Tim are the plastic stocks any lighter than the wood ones?
