JUMP Traps?? Do they still make them?
« on: August 26, 2010, 03:24:42 PM »
When I was younger, I had a few jump traps.  Just wondering do they still make them and where or if you can get them.

JUmp traps were discontinued in the mid 80s.I do have some Blake and Lambs still in the box. Also have somes #2,3s,and 4,s in the garage--.
Coilspring traps took over for the jumpers.

Those #3 and #4 jumps make excellent beaver traps for front foot catches. Getting a little expensive to buy now-a-days too.

The jump traps are long lasting strong traps that seem to work forever. I have quite a few #4's and #44's equipped with Oberto dogless pans that I bought from Morse Oberto in 1962 and they are still so strong, especialy the #4's that they are hard to set by hand.  Generally speaking, most of the conventions I've been to have tailgaters selling jumps and when I see #4's I grab them as they are the best canine and bobcat trap there is when set in snow.

I do have some #4 jump traps that I do like for beaver, but I really dislike the #1s and 1.5s in water.  I find that something about them, whether instability or the action of the traps, gives me far more snapped empty traps then I could put up with compared to longsprings or coils. To the point in fact, that for years, will not even set one anymore.
