Coyote hunting from a tree stand illegal in Alabama?

A buddy told me it was illegal to hunt predators from an elevated stand in Alabama.
I did not find anything about it in the hunting seasons or in the general hunting and fishing regulations that the state puts on internet.

Anybody know anything about that?


Of course, this is the same buddy that said hot water freezes faster than cold water, but I am sure that is a discussion for the "hot water freezes faster than cold water" forum.

Don't think so. Rules say you can hunt any game with gun from tree stand except turkeys and for those you must use a bow if in a tree stand. Haven't ever seen any exception to that for predators. Mostly here the only limitation on coyotes is ya can't do it at night.

I haven't seen anyting against it, and have done it more than once.... But your buddy was right about the hot water freezing faster...

It is not illegal to hunt anything but turkeys out of a tree stand.  LAst night I was all over Title 9, Code of AL 1975 looking for why the 2010 AL Game LAw pamphlet showed a rule change in handgun calibers for turkey hunting.  You can shoot a deer with any thing .22 cal center fire expanding or over but this yrs. book says you can't shoot turkey with a handgun under .40 cal.  For ever before it was legal to use any weapon, .22 cal or over, with expanding centerfire ammo only, and open sites. It is not in  Rule 220-2-???. which deals with firearms use to hunt, nor is the AL site easy to find what is legal. As a retired AL State Police employee, familiar with the Dept of Conservation people, I am not surprised. Their website is very basic and you have to do a Google search on AL Game Laws (Title 9 Code of AL 1975) to find most stuff, and then the details are in the "Rules" which don't come up in that search. Good luck and be specific on google if you search.

The 2010-11 AL Hunting/ Fishing Rules and Regs had just come out and they read different from last year.  The handgun calibers have returned to center expanding ammo for turkey hunting (and deer hunting ammo.    Black powder must be .40 cal or above.  I think there was a typo in last years regs.  WhenI said I checked the books, I was serious, we have the compete AL Code Library in my office and it never changed in those updates.

you can shoot them critters from a helicopter if ya want too...
i think ya can probably get away with it in the south most part of the state.
we got'um so bad, they eat'n flowers on peoples front porches !!!!

From my experience with AL Game & Fish folks, they are really good people.  They are very serious about legal game violations, but what you to a wild hog or a coyote, as long as no one complains or you don't break any laws, they are fair.  Turkeys are specified, nothing else.
