Got the old swift out today.
« on: March 27, 2011, 05:57:49 PM »
I have not shot my Ruger MKIIvt chambered in 220 swift for about 7 months. I figured I would go out and stretch her legs this afternoon and see what it or I could do. After tinkering around for a few rounds I settled down and shot for accuracy. The paper target has to be the best I have ever shot with the swift at 300 yards. Some may say big deal but I am pretty happy with myself and the gun at 300 today concidering there was a steady 10 or so mph breeze to contend with. The steel plate was at 500 yards under the same conditions and I missed the plate all together with 2 shots. The funny part for me is I was using a cheap 32X BSA platinum target scope that holds zero some of the time, luck was with me today.

:-[ Till the last few weeks, it seemed like I could not miss killing a coyote with my old Swift, but have missed several????? Tried the old girl at 100 yards, and.....it was just perfect 1 1/2 inches high...I must be getting old...The swift is a great one..if I would have known in the 70's I could barrel up a 700 action for the .220 Swift, I would have never spent much time with the .22-250...I just sighted in my last Swift it has a 6.5-20 Leupold and a custom thumbhole stock...felt I might get back into chuck shooting, but I doubt it now..But it is a great shooter..may use it for p. dogs at longer ranges, and coyotes of course...Great shooting by the way.....
