Brass for the 300 wsm
« on: September 24, 2010, 01:23:19 PM »
Can you use 270 wsm brass for the 300 wsm?
I heard of using it the other way around. They are the same size, so will the 300 die stretch the throat without splitting?  Would using 7mm wsm work?

From looking over the case drawings , I don't see it being an issue , the case of the 270 is just slightly longer from the head to the shoulder ( few thou. ) but not so much that it will not set back to were you need it .

The shoulder angle is the same as well as the COL , so that is not going to be a problem , It may also help to anneel the case necks to avoid case loss due to splits , how ever with proper lube and taking your time , the losses are going to be min. without anneeling .

I would like to hear from someone who has actually done it,
or even the 7mm wsm to 300 wsm.

The length to the sholder is the same, 243 to 7mm or 7mm to 308 is no problem at all, just put the brass in your dies and pull the handle down and you will have good brass.  The 270 WSM to 300 WSM will be the same.  The neck will be slightly shorter which is no trouble at all and I doubt you will loose more than 5% of them.  Have at it.  Larry
