.25 Remington Ammo
« on: October 01, 2010, 01:40:31 AM »
This is a reloading question, but it might fit here. The new 6.8mm military round is based on the 25 Remington. From what I understand, it is a 25 Remington necked up to .270. My questions is this, can you neck it down to 25 Remington. It is readily available and very close to the size you need it. I bid on a Remington pump gun in 25 at an auction last month, did not win it but came close. If I can make ammo easily I will buy the next one, I am a bit of a .257 nut in that I own 25-20s, 250-3000s, 257 Roberts and even a 256 Winchester. Shotgunner

Yes you can, but you will have to be careful of the neck thickness.  The cartridges may become to thick at the neck.  This can be reamed/turned off of the case to fix the problem.

30 Remington cases are still availible. You can neck them down to 25 rem or up to 32 rem with no issues. The worst part is the price of either set of dies. I neck down 375 Winchester brass to make 32 special without any neck reaming. Works fine in my Marlin at full power loads.

My guess is that you could find a supply of 6.8mm that is cheaper then 30 Remington, and you do not have to neck it down as far. If the AR 15 guys are shooting it, they tend to make a lot of empties. Shotgunner

Trying to use the 6.8 case for the .25 could be problematic since the 6.8 has a length of 1.676 and the .25 has a length of 2.05.  Necking down the .30 is the way to go.

We sell .30 Rem brass at a very reasonable cost, 37.60 per 100.
