my NEF 30-30 barrel (2005 manuf) had open sights and was tapped for a rail.

So far every CF rifle barrel I have seen with iron sights has been has been D/T for a scope rail.  The barrels have ranged in age from pre 1986 (original H&R) to current Illion, NY production.  Most of these barrels are rimmed cartridges, only exception I have seen is the 22 hornet.  This may be changing as I just bought a 444 Marlin (rimmed cartridge) that is D/T for a scope rail but is not D/T for iron sights.

The youth model comes with open sights and is D&T for scope base . It is also an SB2 frame that can be fitted to any rifle or shotgun barrel later, (44 mag, 45lc or 357 mag that you can ream by hand to some large calibers, or add a 45/70 barrel.) eddiegjr

ALL modern rifle barrels(1987 and later, centerfire or rimfire) are drilled and tapped for a scope rail, regardless if the come with sights or not.  ;)
