« on: August 10, 2010, 01:05:38 AM »
Whats your favorite load or loads for your 25-06? Just got one Saturday and wondering where to start with different loads. 1 : 10 twist and 22'' barrel. Thanks in advance.

This works for me.  It's deer tested as well.

Depending on the rifle but these two loads are my favorite.

49 grs IMR or AA 4350, CCI 250 primer, Rem case, 117 Sierra flat base Pro Hunter.

52 grs H-4831, CCI BR-2 primer, Rem case, 117 Sierra flat base Pro Hunter or 115 Nosler Partition

52 grs IMR or AA 4350, CCI BR-2 primer, Rem case, 100 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip or Sierra.

These all work great on deer.

This is my varmint load: 52.2 grs IMR or AA 4350 CCI 250 Primer, Rem case, 87 gr Sierra . This is a BOMB on groundhogs. It will scatter pieces.

My favorite and about the most accurate is a near max load IMR4350 and of coarse the sierra 117gr. flat base spitzer. I tried the boattail 117 gr., but didn't shoot near as well as the flat base.

I load a 117 Sierra Gameking over 50.0 grains of Reloder 22 powder.  Winchester Brass, Winchester LR Primer.  We're getting about 3000 fps out of a Ruger Mod 77 and it's 0.8" accurate out of that skinny barrel.

One thing that other correspondents have mentioned is that when you increase the powder charge, the load seems to get more accurate.  We're not trying to stretch the action and getting good velocity and great accuracy out of this load.  It works well for us.

nearly all 7 of the 25-06's I've had liked 4831 or 4350. depending on use (deer or varmints) My choice of bullet was usually the 100 grain or 75. MOST of the deer I hunted were rarely above 150 pounds onthe hoof!

Wow thanks this is all great info. Keep em coming and will try some different loads starting this weekend. I will keep up and update.

The gun is really my son's he won it at a RMEF banquet, but it looks fun to shoot so I am sure dad will have to do some shooting with it too.  I know he is excited to the max about winning and getting to start shooting with it.

I shoot two loads ; one for each rifle.
Long range P-dog load:
53.5gr IMR4831( I also tried this load with 100gr Partition for the deer rifle and it shot well but not as well as the Abond).
100gr SMK HPBT

Whitetail deer load:
51gr IMR4831
110gr NABond

I've tried IMR 4350,RL17,RL19, RL22. All shot acceptably well but 4831 was hands down the best in my two 25/06's.
GOOD LUCK and GOOD SHOOTING!!

I have other rifles for deer, this is my long range predator/ varmint gun. I use the 75 gr Hornady V-max and 54.5 gr of H-414. I have some 1.8" groups shot @ 300yds, and a 4.75 group I shot @ 540 yds, my best ever long range group.

My #1 absolutely loves that exact primer bullet combo with a small change. I use 52 grains of 4831sc. It will easily put 5 into 3/4s of an inch at a 100 with that load and its never let me down on deer.
