Hasting slugs, opinions please...
« on: March 28, 2010, 04:02:53 PM »
Are factory loaded Hasting slugs any good? I ask because I stopped at a shop and they had a bunch of 3" 12 gauge Hasting slugs for $8.50 a box and 2.75" Hasting slugs for $7.50 a box. More than I usually pay for my smoothbore slug guns but I have a couple of rifled slugs guns I don't shoot much because of the exhorbitantly expensive cost of Sabot slugs. I take it Hasting slugs are for rifled guns, are they any good? Are they worth what they are asking for them (what did they retail for?) and do you suggest I buy a few boxes? Thanks for your insight, expierence, and knowledge....<><....:)

I exclusively use Hasting Laser Accurate 3" in my Marlin 512 bolt action slug gun. Cloverleaf holes at 100 yds. Planing a hog hunt this year so I will have to get back to you on performance on game.

I use Hastings 2 3/4 slugs in my 870 with hastings barrel.  I have not found anything that is more accurate out of my shotgun.  They are strictly for rifled barrels.  $7.50 and $8.50 are pretty good prices.  I don't think you will find them that cheap anywhere else.  I think I paid around $9.00 a box for the 2 3/4 inch slugs so you are saving a buck or so.  The only problem is that hastings has gone out of business and you may find that they are the most accurate slug you have ever shot and then you can't find anymore so you might buy a box or 2 and go to the range asap and find out if they are and then go back and buy out the store.

The SPW's are the same slug that you can reload as the Hastings and you can get them at www.slugsrus.com
