« on: February 01, 2010, 06:44:20 AM »
Does anyone know if there is a 6.8 SPC barrel available for a XP100? Can it even be installed? Thanks, John

Why not get a blank and install it and chamber it ? The XP probly had more bbls switched than any other gun back when IMHSA was going strong.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Getting a bolt to work without modifications is the problem, and I'm not sure how much of a problem it would be. The 6.8" Rim diameter is 0.422 in. All the XP's I know of are chambered in one of 3 families of cartridges.  The .221/222/223 family has a rim diameter of 0.378 in. The 308/300Sav family is .473, and the 35 Rem is .460.
The 6.8 does sound like a dandy cartridge for the XP, though.

Could the bolt face be opened up ? Seems thats what they did in the old days . There was a xp called the Brute in a shortened 458 win case that had the face opened up . As a sode the shooter wrapped his shooting hand in reinforced package tape before shooting .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

If you have one of the .221 or .223 bolts, of course a qualified gunsmith could open it up, install a different extractor if you desire, and a .277" barrel could be chambered, contoured and installed. I'd contact SSK for the work.

Several have rechambered to the PPC series of cartridges.  If you have the smaller bolt it can be opened up.  If you have the larger bolt it can be sleeved.  Possibilities are endless, all's it takes is money.
