Skinner peep & front sight question
« on: September 15, 2010, 01:20:01 PM »
I put a skinner peep on my 336 30/30. I shoot a nice 5 shot group at 50 yards to see what height front sight I needed.
I was shooting 15" high so I figured (using Dr.Skinners formula) I need a sight .183" higher than my factory sight with a height of .300".
My new sight needs to be .483" tall. If I buy a .500" tall sight will I be o.k. with fine tuning the elevation by adjusting the aperture? When I did my test group I had the aperature sight as close to the base as I could get it, so I had room to raise it later.

Just making sure I am on the right track.

Yes, you will be fine.  My 1895G was much the same way, so I bought a Marbles fiber optic front and used the rear to bring in the zero.

Thanks Bearcat, I'll get the sight ordered.

How do you like the marbles fiber optic sight?

I really like, I ordered the green FO front and a white 3/32" front with white bead.  I have not used the white because once I got the FO on it seemed like the way to fly.

I made it to the range today after I installed my new F.O. sight. Elevation was perfect right off the bat. Made a 1½" windage adjustment, and I am good to go. Now all I have to do is wait on Bear, and deer season to get here, and try it out on some game.

Excellent!  What maker did you go with for the front sight?

I went with the Marbles Fiber Optic in orange 1/16" dia. Love it so far!
