bear hunting
« on: May 19, 2010, 01:16:42 PM »
Does anyone here bear hunt? I was wanting to go bear hunting next year but wasn't 100% set on anywhere yet. How good of odds would a non-resident hunter have on seeing and taking a bear?
Thanks,
Chris Kiefner

Chris,

I hunted bear for years up in Roseau County (way the heck up there--near Canada) and did well. There are a lot of bear up there. I haven't bear hunted in several years now because I couldn't stand the drive to/from the cities just to put out fresh bait (doughnuts, grease, candy, bread). It got to be too much of a hassle, and not to mention, too costly.

Your odds are good if you go up north and put the time in to bait.

Hiring a guide is what we always did. We had from 30 to 70% sucess depending on the year.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

Not a bad idea. I'm not sure what a guide service runs you, but the costs of fuel and a few weeks worth of baiting might add up to what it would cost you for a guide who already has a spot for you to sit and has the grunt work done with. Of course, if you want the satisfaction of knowing you brought the bears yourself, it may be worth it to do your own thing. To each their own.

I have been hearing stories about more bear hunters every year and is getting very crowded. I hunted Near Orr Mn. and was surprised at all the unters and bait everywhere. That was 7 years ago. Has it gotten worse?

Very few bear hunters where we hunt. Nobody wants to make the 7 hour drive from the cities  ;D

If you need any help with controlling your population of bears give me a holler. I plan to go next year and I have not decided on where I am wanting to go yet or what weapon I am completely sold on using. I just know that I am going to go.
