I have been out for a couple of days for our deer season. I took out the contender (sorry, but the pistol this time) to fill my doe tag. It was good and bad. The good news was I filled my tag. I got a mule deer doe with my 7x30 at about 100 yds and she dropped without a twitch. I hit her through both lungs just a little higher than midway using 120 grain ballistic tips over H322 powder The bullet performed perfectly. Excellent expansion without jacket and core separation and complete exit. The bad news was that sunup on opening day was at 7:30 and I had my deer field dressed and loaded back in the truck by 8AM. My shortest season ever.

JUST CRY!!!!  Mr "Short Season".  I'm out here floating around the Southern Californian coast on a big gray ship missing my entire deer season AGAIN this year.  So boo hoo for you hoo...  I love the Navy, just not as much when I miss deer season and being able to hunt with my TC's.

CONGRATS Flatlander!  Enjoy the meat in the freezer!!

:)  :D
Spent part of today processing and it is in the freezer now. Now I'm stuck with all of the jerky making and I'll probably just get fat from all this healthy meat.
On a serious note, hopefully you will get a chance to hunt soon, but we all appreciate what you guys are doing in the military and the sacrifices you all make for the rest of us.

Flatlander, congrats on the season with the contender.

JJFly, Thanks for doing what you do, so we have the freedom to do what we do.  Hope you get a leave soon to pursue your freedoms.

Hogs, too? Not fair! I wish we had more of those around here. They are even better than venison in my opinion. Good luck!

What velocity you pushing that 120 NBT at.  I am shooting it at around 2220 fps and getting very good performance on whitetails.
Be honest with yourself.  Can you guarantee you would hit a paper plate at 250 yards...100 yards...50 yards?  Then you have no business replacing the plate with a live animal.

I was getting around 2400 fps over H322, but it was a fairly hot load. It was getting sticky on warm days, so I've backed it off a grain or so, but I haven't put it on the chrony. I know how it shoots out to about 200 yds and I'm not really missing the little bit of velocity I've lost, but I would guess that I'm in the 2200-2300 neighborhood.
