Foot placement has its place on the line of a competetion, but not so much in a hunting situation. Let me explain a bit. I've been bowhunting for many years and I've never had a shot on a deer where I had time to worry about the placement of my feet. You have to be able to piviot at your hips and still shoot accurately. You should also be able to shoot while sitting down or while kneeling and both of these cases your feet have nothing to do with how well you shoot.
I'm sure your dad is just like I was when teaching my kids how to shoot. You want to first teach them perfect form and the basic mechanics of shooting. By teaching this they learn to become consistant and it trains their brain and body to perform the motions without thinking. However once my kids got the basics down, then we started praciticing for real. When I say "real' I mean how they might have to take a shot out in the field. So if you are just learning how to shoot traditional my best advice to you is, Listen to your Dad, he has been there and done that. Now on the other hand if you had been shooting for a while and were consistant, shoot how you feel comfortable. Comfort in shooting is the number one reason we hit what we are aiming to hit....
