When is the best time of day to hunt coyotes?  Morning, mid-day,or afternoon?  This is in cold/snow/winter.

I usually do best early morning to about 10 then again after 4. But, I have taken coyotes all hours of the day.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.

Usually early morning/late afternoon here.
Do my best with snow on and below freezing temps for a week or better.
Under these conditions even a sparrow has to consume several times it's body weight DAILY just to keep from freezing solid.

Shotgun Willys response to a similar question a page or so ago was to hunt according to the Solar tables. I think that I need to get back to doing this.

Excuse me!
The post above should have read Solunar tables.
Can get a free download for YOUR part of the country at
Solunar.com/daily_tables.htm

This worked for me yesterday morning but was dumb luck as I had not checked the chart.

Years ago when I lived out in CO, I lived to hunt coyotes. I found that when it was calm and cold, a coyote would respond at any time of the day if they were present. But I do agree with early mornings and evenings being on the average the best times. I sure miss those days of calling them in right in your face. I would love to have the opportunity to do it again. I have lots of land that I could call in Eastern CO, just wish I had somebody that would like to make a road trip out there with me. It sure helps with expenses. I hunted around many of the cattle feedlots around Ft. Morgan, CO. My family also has around 2000 acres we run cattle on as well as all the farmers land surrounding our home place.

This fall we were in Wyoming for antelope and saw several coyotes.  What is nice about eastern Wyoming is that you can see them coming from hundreds of yards away. . . not like Michigans U.P.  This is big woods country with a few fields and clearings.

longwinter-Isn't it amazing how that country is? I worked on a few ranches near Gillette, WY. We called coyotes about every day there. The rancher had a bunch of sheep as well as 400 cows. We could sit on top of a rock ridge and see them coming for a long ways depending on wind. They sure have a lot of coyotes out there.

Todays date is12-17- 03.   I started calling today at daylight and didn't get a coyote until 10:30 AM and then killed two out of 4 that came in. Then called 2 in at 1PM and killed 1 and then called 1 in at 3:30 PM. Snow and cold right now but usually best time is early and late. You just nver know.
