Plastic Set Screw?
« on: October 07, 2010, 05:52:18 PM »
My friends new Huntsman seems to have plastic in the rear-most (breach plug end) scope mounting hole. The other two holes have set screws, but this hole is filled with what appears to be plastic. It does not have a screwdriver slot, and the barrel does not appear to ever have had a scope mount attached (it is used). What's the best way to remove it? I suggested my default solution-- FIRE!

I removed the original  regular open rear sight and replaced it with a Williams peep site. Williams sight holes match those further back closest to the breach.  I removed the cheap plastice set screws and moved them to the holes from the removed old site. Plastic is soft and wouldnt accept much torgue to screw into the holes. Now have torn up  screw driver slots and the set screws/plugs extend above the barrel catching on things.  Where would I find a new set of plastic set screws/plugs?

Why replace them with plastic? You can order steel screws from Brownell's or you can order the plastic screws from H&R, toll free (866)776-9292.

That's why I come to your site for the answers. Prefer steel but no idea what size. Just placed ordered from Brownells per you suggestion.  Thanks again.
