Marlin GS problem
« on: October 13, 2010, 06:41:30 PM »
Just bought a used Marlin GS in 45-70. I love the feel of this short handy carbine. But it has a problem. It will cycle all rounds from the magazine with the exception of the last one. Which partly exits the magazine and then hangs up. At that point the action of the lever is completely blocked and you must disassemble to clear the blockage. Has anyone run up against this type of problem with the big bore Marlins and if so what's the solution?

I'd be willing to bet that the previous owner cut down the magazine spring to make loading easier, and that a new spring would fix your problem.

Was thinking of a new magazine spring follower. Might as well order the spring also. Thanks for the reply.

I would also think it's the spring.
an unloaded wepon is equal to the same mass and volume as a rock.

FWIW, when you have it apart, if you can lay yer paws on a small round stone, I would hit both the inside & outside leading edges of the loading gate, and the inside forward edge of the loading port, to remove any sharp edge(s) there.

It will make both loading & feeding smoother.
