788 stock
« on: August 02, 2010, 07:09:20 PM »
Hi all, I'm looking for a thumbhole stock for a 788 6mm.  I looked in all the regular places.  Only ones I could find were unfinished.  I am not much at finish sanding and would like to buy one finished.  I believe I found the unfinished ones at Richard's, couldn't find anything at Stockey's or Boyd's.  If anybody has seen a place that makes or carries them let me know.  Thumbhole stocks help my shooting considerably, and every little bit helps.  This gun is brand new in box and unfired, my grandfather bought it when it was discontinued because he knew it would shoot good, just never got around to playing with it.  Well I think almost thirty years is long enough for the gun to wait.

Leather5to1......
I have owned several 788 remingtons, and still have a full set in all the calibers they produced. I have looked for years for a thumbhole stock for my 22-250 and my 222, none out there that is finished. what you will have to do is buy the one you like and take it to someone that will finish it for you. That is the only way you will have a finished thumbhole stock. I used to take my work to someone else, but not anymore, I do all my own work now, it's fun and I enjoy it. Now, before you ask, no I don't do for other people, cause I have a hard time keepin up with what I want. Luck to you, and don't give up, someone will help!
