Taurus Purchase?
« on: November 30, 2003, 04:10:32 PM »
IM in the Market for a .357 Mag, I had a SW model 60, but got rid of it a while back.
Im ready to get back into carry mode now and wanted to see if any one saw the total Titanium spectra blue .357 fromk Taurus was worth my looking into.
Thanks a bunch.
BTW these forums are right up my alley.

That would be a good choice, the frame is slightly larger than the S&W 60 but it is about a 1/2 pound lighter   Plus you have 2 extra rounds.

The model 66 will give you 7 rounds also, but cost you a few dollars less...

I believe the 617 is gonna be the same size gun as the 627 with which I am more familiar. It is basically same size as the S&W K frame guns. Holds 7 rounds. That's a big large for good concealed carry for me but the 627 is a total titanium gun and sure enough light enough to carry concealed with no problem. I have a 3" .357 Mag Model 60 S&W and it weights a LOT more than the 627 Taurus Ti. Heck it weights more than my 6.5" Taurus Total Ti .45 Colt does.

I've just done some research on this myself. The 617 is a seven shot .357 in the Taurus Compact frame, same as the 450, 460, and their tracker series. The compact is slightly bigger than the small frame that the Mod. 85, 605, or the new CIA series uses. I had ordered a 617 and called back to change it to the 651. I wanted to be able to carry this gun in my pocket and the compact frame is too large for that. I have a Mod. 450, which is the same size as the 617. If you look at the difference in the two frames you'll see the main difference to be in the height. Hope this helps.

I have seen Taurus's at the local gun shop used with the residue around the ported holes, does this clean easy?
My old man just told me to let him know when Im going to get a new gun, hes gonna pay for one for me as a christmas gift.
He wants to go shooting and stuff, sounds like fun to me.
Any more solid testimonies about Taurus would help much.
Thanks again. :D
Hey ya thanks Big Blue that helped me narrow my choice down. :D
