1977 Ruger BN45X

I just bought this '77 7 1/2" BH at a very good price but it didn't come with the .45 colt cylinder ... just the .45 acp cylinder. I am wanting to buy a .45 colt cylinder for it but do not know where is the best place to get one. I have sent an email to Ruger but have yet to hear back from them. I have read where you can send the revolver into Ruger to fit another cylinder but they will keep the cylinder you send in to them. Not sure why they would do that.

Can anyone help?

  They will do work to their firearms but only so that the end result is that of a cataloged variation.    You can have a new cylinder fitted but you'll have to send your gun to them to have it done.  You can probably find one elsewhere and it'll likely fit and line up properly.  Not a guarantee, but good chance.
  You wouldn't send in your ACP cylinder anyways so why worry about them keeping it?

I think I might have misunderstood what I read elsewhere. I checked Numrich but they seem to be sold out of cylinders. Is there another source to buy from?

I appreciate the responses. I have tried to join the Rugerforums before but cannot as they won't accept my email address ... yahoo.com ... for whatever reason. I got an answer from Ruger and they priced out sending the revolver back into them, fitting a new .45 colt cylinder, and return shipping. Not too bad considering the good deal I got buying the BH. I think I am leaning toward Ruger doing the work.

Probably a good idea.  8)  When I sent mine in they threw in a trigger job and timed the action for no added charge too.  ;)
