Rem Swift Scirocco loads?
« on: October 10, 2004, 07:30:12 AM »
A question for the group..

I have been trying different factory loads in my new Remington 700 in 270 Winchester.

I has been shooting 3 shot groups around 1 inch at 100 yards with Winchester 130 grain silvertips and it did about the same with Federals with 130 grain nosler ballistic tips.

The Remington loads with the Sciroccos shot 4 inch groups...

I am going on the basis that this particular rifle don't like the scirocco bullet or the load.....

Anyone else have any ideas

The rifle has been cleaned with wipe out between different load trials.

Please save the Remington bashing in general.  That is not what I'm interested in learning about.

Thanks

Cowpoke,
I will not bash any Remington Rifles because i have a safe almost full of them. Like you said the Rifle just might not function with some ammo.
Don't know if you load or not--If not keep trying till you find the one that works best for you. One inch is not bad from factory loads. Thats the beauty of loading your own, You make adjustments until you get it the way you want them. Just hang in there you will be fine. Good luck and stay safe..........Joe...........

Rem Swift Scirocco loads?

oso45-70,

At this time I don't reload, but I can see that happening in the not too distant future.

I am satified with the one inch groups that I get with the original silvertips from Winchester, but I do like to try different loads to see how they do for my set up.

I was surprised and disappointed that the scirocco's didn't do any better.

Thanks for the reply

Guns and Ammo just did an article this month about factory loads.  They tested 83 different loads and from what i read, your results are right in line with theirs.

Pretty much with the Scirrocco factory loads in 4 different calibers 3" was the best and 6 was the worst....if I remember correctly.

5Redman8,

If I was Swift bullet company I would not be too happy about factory loads using my bullets not doing any better than that.

What do you think?

I'm not sure why that would be. I just finished working up loads in two different  calibers, with Scirocco's. One in a .284/7mm, and the other in a .30 caliber. Neither were finicky at all. Actually the 7mm, is one of the most accurate rounds I have ever shot.  Factory loads shouldn't be that far off.

I use the Swift  Scirocco  210 gr with Rel. 15 in my 338-06 Ack and it shoots 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups all day long. This rifle has a Pac-Nor SS barrel and was barreled by Pac-Nor. I took a 4x4 Bull Elk last week in Colorado. The bull went 50 yard and the bullet took out both lungs and turn them into jelly and deposited itself somewhere in the country side complete pass threw. The shot was 177 yards. The Swift  Scirocco is one great big game bullet. Don't judge a bullet by one load your rifle doesn't like.
