10-22s disappearing?

I posted a similar post to the .22 site, but will also ask the question here.  Why are 10-22 becoming so valuable and rare on store shelves?

Had to chuckle yesterday pete.  I was at the small local gunshop today. I had bought a take down 1022 from him in the middle of the summer for 325. He told me to bring it in and hed give me 500 cash for it used. told him ill wait till that offer is a grand

LGS sold out of them three days after the Conn. shooting. He did have one come in on a trade, a 1994 International! I snatched it up for $300 out the door. It is a 95%+ gun, and is residing in my safe.

   It's probably the most common semi-auto in America, and Ruger is (or will) no doubt continue cranking them out in huge numbers.  In a few months, this psychotic panic will be over, and they will be back on the shelves at regular prices.
 
   At the gunshow last weekend, I kid you not, I sold a Walmart .22LR (37 grain) "Value Pack" of 550 loose rounds in the paper-type milk carton, for $50!   I paid $9.95 for it about 3 months ago.
 
   Bricks of the 1,000 round Winchester WildCat .22LR had price tags on them of $100 per brick.  Most sold for about $85.   By noon, ALL of the .22 LR at the show was gone. 
 
  At the same show, all of the 9mm ammo, virtually every round, was sold  by  about 11:00 in the morning.  One guy had three boxes left, so he poured the rounds into a big plastic baggie and sold them for $1.00 a round.  He sold them all.
 
  I sold my two old boxes of 9mm UMC to a couple who had just bought a new 9mm pistol, and couldn't find any ammo for it.  They paid me $29.99 a box and they were glad to get it.

People are buying up all the 22 Rim fires they can lay their hands on. 22 WMR and 17 HMR are basically the same, nothing on the shelves. Center fire ammo is almost as bad. All Semi-auto guns are difficult to get because everyone fears they are going to be classed as an "Assault rifle". Reloading Supplies have dried up. AR-15 type rifles are selling for 2-3 times used as new guns cost just a couple of months ago. Guns in general are harder to get. The gun grabbers are the best sales people the industry could hope for. All the mail order houses are running way behind on shipments, even if they have something in stock. People have went completely nuts. I had reloading supplies on hand. Not as much as would have liked, but enough. I waited out the last big scare (2008 - 2009) and then stocked up. I refused to pay double and triple what is should cost. I will wait this one out and then restock. It may take a year or more, but wait.

An area sporting goods, rec'd a shipment of 10/22s late last week, so now I am again a 10/22 owner.
 
They rec'd a dozen or so in at least 3 configerations.
 
Bought a new one for much better price then what I saw at a big G.S. just over a week ago.
