Nosler 338 cal 200 gr E-Tip
« on: June 06, 2009, 01:00:18 PM »
I tested the 338 cal 200 gr E-Tip in my 338 RUM. Using a COL of 3.620" and 90.5 grs RL 22 yielded a MV of 3111 fps from the M700 LSS 26 inch barrel. Accuracy was well under an inch, I can't give you an exact size because I forgot to take the target down! I recovered two bullets at 100 yds that were shot into water filled milk jugs, both found in jug #6. The first bullet weighed 197.1 grs, expanded to .738" and the second weighed 197.0 grs, expanded to .748".

Thank you much for doing the research and sharing it.

;) I lost my post on this. Bought some 30 cal. Etips a year or so ago when I was in Oregon. Never had the chance to try them. Looks like this proves they will be excellent. Thanks.

I own the 338 RUM and I have shot the 200gr bullet at 3128 FPS. I would call it even with your 338 RUM.

I recovered a 200 gr E-Tip from water jugs at 300 yds. This is one tough bullet! It went through 6 water jugs, and 2 1/2 inch pcs of plywood and was recovered in sand. The bullet weighed 197.1 grs and expanded to .709". The picture shows bullets from 100 yds (l) and 300 yds (r).
This is one tough bullet!

Most impressive performance!! What is the BC of that bullet? I normally think of 225gr. & above for that cal. but this bullet could change the rules.

Thanks JD for the report!

This is the first I have seen of those in .338.  I will have to try them when the stores here in Fairbanks get them in.  I have been using 250gr Nosler Accubonds, in a .338-378 Weatherby.

Will also try them in my 30-06, maybe I can get the performance I am looking for.

A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
