Over the years I had several 870 's in .410, and I never had any luck shooting game with them...I sold the last one to one of my former students, and they use it for blue grouse, and love it....Maybe I held my mouth wrong, I don't know, but from cottotails to grouse, I could never do any good with the little gun...bought a 28 ga. 4 or 5 years ago, and love it..I have shot blue grouse, rabbits, duck, and sage grouse with out a hitch....maybe I just needed that little bit extra shot...they always looked so cute...now I wish I would have kept the last one I bought, but my former  student won't even consider it...he says his wife wont let him, and she is also one of my former students...you would think they would have some consideration for their old teacher.... :-\ :'( ;D ;D

Minimal recoil on my now way too tender shoulder and I break about as many skeet with it as with any other larger bore. Cheaper too if you reload.

I don't hunt, but I enjoy collecting and shooting  firearms. We have a small farm, and I usually have a .410 nearby because they are light, handy, and a 12 ga really isn't needed for pest control or the occasional rattler, although I do have 12's and 20's.
My favorite 410 is a NEF Pardner, and my other is a Stoeger Uplander SXS. I've got an old Mossberg 183K bolt action with C-Lect choke on layaway at our small town gun shop. I can't wait to bring her home. ;D

I think they should only  make a 410. I have shot deer, doves, squirrel, woodcock, rabbit, pheasant, quail, and chucker with mine. Plus i have taken a lot of money from guys on the skeet field with my 410. What more do you need?

First centerfire gun I was allowed to use growin up was my grand dad's .410 he bought when he was 15 years old.  It has the pull off forend style and smoooth barrel with no bulge like most do today.  It weighs next to nothing and shoots great and you can carry a lot of ammo without your pants falling down.  ;)  I like 20 ga. slightly better these days due to the cost of .410, but have seriously thought about making some brass .410 from 303 brass and hand loading for it.  I know I'll never get rid of that gun out of all I have now.  ;)

They make for good close range hunting without tearing up meat too bad. Also a pleasure to carry.
