yes i wear gloves but it really depends, i've got several level of loads i use.  the first is my alaskan loads, for my ruger alaskan, these with that grip require no glove, it's a beartooth bullets 280 grain bullet at right about 1200fps.  the second is my srh and FA 7.5 loads, these are midrange loads for general hunting/plinking, a beartooth 340 grain bullet at 1500 fps.  comfortable in the SRH with no glove and OK in the FA with no glove but more comfortable with one.  the last are the screamers which are x bullet loads out of my 10" FA model 83.  these usually rip through at 1780 or close to 2000 fps depending on which load i'm using, these are no fun without a glove.  any could be shot one or two shots if i didn't have time to put the gloves on without pain
a gun owner that votes dem is an oxymoron with the emphasis on moron.

The load for my 9.5" SRH pushes the 300 grain Hornady XTP/HP MAG bullet to 1600 fps and I have never even thought about wearing a glove while shooting it.

I never wear a glove on my right hand when handgun hunting. All of my handgun have lite triggers and it`s just to dangerous. Keep your hand in your pocket if it`s cold out and you`ll find your shots will be alot more accurate.

Let me explain where im going with this,,,,
My hands sweat, so I feel like a glove would help me when Im shooting my 454.
I have a pair of Under Armor gloves that have the soft rubber coating on the outside that help grip the handle of the gun.

Well,,while wearing the glove the outer rubber coating grips the gun,,but the inter fabric slides on my skin.

I have found that if you turn the glove inside out, the nylon cloth fabric grips the soft handle on a Taurus Raging Bull very well while the soft rubber coating on the inside clings to the skin.

Have any of you ever tried this?

I use Uncle Mike's Gloves, open finger style.

I think they improve control very much, expecially when hands sweat.

This,with my Taurus 6" 454Casull and NOT 45LC loads.

While at the range I use a pair of gloves like the ones shown above. This helps my shooting hand with the recoil and my off hand from gettin' scraped up from the bench or pad.

For hunting I also wear a pair of gloves(both hands) to help with controllability and stability. When in the spot and stalk mode I always am carrying a mono-pod shooting stick. The gloves help control both the weapon and the stick. I watch the auto parts stores for their sales and buy the Mechanix Wear brand in black.

No matter how cold out I will not wear an insulated glove because I find them too thick. Sitting a ladder stand is a different matter all together. For that I have a hand warmer tube kinda thing(insulated) that is worn around my neck and both my hands are shoved into that. It works very well. ---SAWMAN

I wear a pair like this when hunting:

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/2-pk-ross-40-gram-thinsulate-insulation-sheepskin-gloves-black.aspx?a=469277

Good deal at 2 pr for $24.95 and thin enough to feel everything well.  When it's really cold, I add these:

http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/3-prs-used-dutch-military-mitts-with-liners-woodland-camo.aspx?a=604895

Another good deal at 3 pr. for $19.95.  I can shoot either handed, so occasionally I put the mitt over the glove on the opposite hand until it warms up sufficiently, then swap back.  The leather gloves are on inside the mitt, so I order the largest size mitts and correct fitting gloves.  It is already down into the 40's in the early mornings and evenings here.  8)

Rather than gloves I put a set of Hogue Monogrips on my SRH. I carry mine for protection in the field and found that the grips that came on the gun were a little slipery in wet weather. The Monogrips help with control under recoil as well. I like the original 300 grain bullets that Winchester loads or the Sierra 300 grain JSP in handloads. The Barnes 250 grain X bullet is another one that I like.

I shoot two .454 Casull loads...one is a 270 gr Keith style at 980 fps.   My hunting load for elk/deer is a 325 gr LBT at 1150 fps. Neither really requires a glove to control recoil, or save my hand from injury.

When it's cold I do wear either a deerskin glove or one of my old Nomex/goatskin  flight gloves from the Army.

I'm not one of these guys that enjoys excessive recoil. Having killed many deer and a few elk with a handgun, I've found that one really doesn't need the silly, screamer loads that many insist beating themselves up with, to kill even an elk.

My suggestion...IF the glove deal is for recoil mitigation....throttle DOWN.

PACT makes a good glove's for the revolver shooter . I have the 454 but seldom wear the gloves hunting . On the range with alot of shooting i do sometimes. Get a set of the new hogue grips for the RSH . or a thin cotton glove.
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I never could get used to the bulk of the various padded shooting gloves.  If you can find an all leather golf glove, it will work extremely well.  Batting gloves also work well if you can find the all leather ones (most of the newer ones I've seen have padding in places not conducive to good shooting).  You can cut the index finger off the glove to accomodate your shooting finger.  To get a better feel of the hammer I also cut the thumb off the glove at the knuckle (any higher and you'll ruin the glove).   In the winter when my hands are real dry, I rub a little bit of bow string wax on them -- this helps maintain your grip -- it will also work with sweating hands.   I'm sure any kind of bees wax product would work -- like waxing your surf board or cross country skis.

Oh, if you try the golf or batting gloves, make sure there isn't a seam between the gun and you skin.

I use Cabela's Kangaroo Skin Gloves.  The leather is much thinner because kangaroo hide is much stronger than cow hide, and they do not need a thick piece of hide to make the gloves.  Some like the un-insulated, but I prefer the 400gram thinsulate gloves.  I hunt in fairly cold weather, and like the little bit of warmth.  These gloves give me all of the dextarity that I need to feel the trigger squeeze.  They also wear very well, I have been using them for years.  The more I use them, the better they feel.

+1 on the Uncle Mikes gloves.  Takes the bite out of the heavy kickers and are very comfortable too ;)

Good luck,

I guess I'm the only wimp here!  I always use a glove for range work, SRH 480 Ruger.  The hogue grip on it chews my hand up.  I use an old weight-lifting glove.  No fingers, pad on palm.

i rarely use a glove. when its real cold i use a thin mechanics glove just to keep my hands warm but anymore i dont fool with shooting gloves. Ive found that with heavy recoiling guns they change your grip and change the way the gun recoils and it effects point of aim. So if your going to sight in your sixgun with a shooting glove on you need to do your final sight in with the same way you intend to hunt.

I guess I've never noticed a difference with glove on or glove off relative to POI.  I've always used a firm grip and maybe that has something to do with it or maybe I’m just a lousy shot and can’t tell the difference?

As far as hearing protection, I'll second that with any firearm.  I've let fly countless times with a 44 or 45 and smaller calibers without ear protection outdoors and I didn't do my hearing any good, that's for sure but I can't imagine what a 500 would do to your ears and the 454 has quite a crack to it that I wouldn't want to experience either.

I use the electronic muffs and I find that I can’t hear game any better with them than I can without them.  I can hear red squirrels tromping around in combat boots all right but I seldom hear the animal I’m after unless they “snort” at me from 10 yards from my 6 and that has been on a rare occasion.

I did use gloves after my 1st encounter with the 454...it hurt the web of my hand.  Then after shooting a couple of boxes of ammo over a period of time using the gloves (until my hand didn't hurt anymore) I became familiar with the recoil.  Now I know what to expect when I pull the trigger and I don't wear the gloves anymore.  THE 454 TAKES SOME GETTING USE TO!

No gloves when hunting.  you can't feel the trigger!  I so wear a hand muff, I stick a couple of hand warmers inside it and it keeps my fingers nice and toasty.  This allows me to get a good grip when the venison comes along and I.m never cold.
