Combined technology bullets
« on: December 05, 2010, 12:58:18 AM »
I did some horse trading and ended up wit a hundred or so of these in .243

Are they a ballistic tip or something different?

Would you recommend the for deer hunting in thick cover?

Thanks, TVC15

They'er called Ballistic Silver Tip, and there are 2 kinds one for Hunting and one for Varment.
In .243 they have the 95grn Hunting,, 55grn for Varment.

If your going for Deer be sure you have the heavy,
We used some of those in factory ammo for the 708 and I guess they did the job as Dustin did harvest his deer, but I was not impressed with the preformance, The bullets fragmented quickly with little penetration and required a second shot.(300yrd shoulder, then neck)
As far as the special Lubalox coating, I understand it's OK as long as guys use just those bullets, but when I went back to plain copper jacket bullets the gun fouled immediatly and it was a dicken to clean that stuff out of the bore.

I would not use that bullet in heavy cover where it would be a 50-75yrd shot, they're designed more for high velocity and distance. I'd be choosing something like the Partition or even the Hornady Interlock, something that doesn't have that needle point.

I shoot the 150 grain from my 7mm RemMag, and have yet to need a second shot... Or trail anything....

They are Nosler ballistic tips with the labluox (SP?) which is a moly type coating on the bullet. If it is the 95 gr bullet put it into the lungs of a deer and it will kill it pretty quickly. Before you start shooting them clean your bore very good. After you shoot them up clean your bore very good before using other bullets. Soaking the bore with a patch soaked in Kroil penetrating oil over night will usually get under the moly and you can swab and brush it out the next day.
