Browning A-5 Butt Plate
« on: December 04, 2003, 04:11:18 PM »
Where can I get a butt plate for a Browning Light 12 A-5 Shotgun , the gun is a 1965 era gun.  The butt plate is broken into 2 pieces, can't do much with it.  I need a new one.

Thanks,

Ben

Is the broken butt plate a plastic one or is it made of horn..  If you look closely the horn plates are not pure black, usually..  Most have some streaking.  If it's a horn plate you may find one on Ebay, gunbroker or one of the other auction sites in a lot of buttplates or perhaps at a gunshow but I wouldn't bet on it..  If it's a plastic one, just order one from Brownells or GunPartsCorp.  Gunparts may even have a horn one..  Of course any plate that's large enough will fit and Brownells sells a plain black plate for that purpose.  Also a recoil pad might be fitted..  I would fix the old plate if it were horn.  Epoxy the 2 pieces back together using the screws and holes to hold them in place.  A bit of wax paper will keep from gluing the buttplate to the stock.  After the glue has set I would reinforce with a bit of epoxy and some glass fibers.  The horn plates can also get a bit expensive.  Letr us know how it works out..
