Allmond where to begin search & how
« on: July 07, 2008, 04:31:52 AM »
I am starting to do some research into my family history.  I found a Capt Barry Allmond on the virtual Viet Nam Wall.  I have met with a person who was a childhood friend and have seen his 64 yearbook.  When I compared my 65 yearbook picture, I have concluded that we must have common ancestry.  The spelling of the name is not the ususal way since I use doulble L which is the same as Barry's name.

My family has roots in GA and FL.  There is a possiblitly of others from VA and West VA.  Barry was from Texas.  I am trying to link to Texas Allmonds.

Where should I begin?  What are good resources?

I have found ancestry in Spotslvania, VA,1732 and 1762.  I have tracked them to Burke County GA. Additionally, I have found there is a town in VA called Allmondsville.  The spelling is exact.

I found there are white and black with the same name.  I have received an e mail from a black Allmond.  She became aware of the white side of the family.  She is trying to find me information on linking to the white side of the family through one woman.

Anyone from VA who can help with history?
