Marlins going out to hunt
« on: October 22, 2010, 06:41:32 PM »
Taking off in the morning to hunt an area I have never hunted before.  Got 3 whitetail doe tags for the Wolfpoint area, a friend lived up there and said it's a good place to hunt, so off we go.  Taking the 308MX, 336 XLR 30-30, Glenfield 30-30 and the new 1894 in 44 mag.  Not sure what the area is like and my friend wants to use one of the 30-30's, that's why so many are going out to dance.  Coming back Tues night and leaving for an Elk hunt Wednesday, will take the 338 MXLR and the XS7 in 7mm-08 for that one.  Wish me luck fellas.  DP

Back a day early, started to rain and just barely got out.  That area is all gumbo, little bit of rain and it's like clay mixed with grease.  Sideways in the road as much as going straight and wheel wells packed to the tires with the stuff.  Not many whitetails up there this year, mostly muleys and antelope.  Locals said the Whitetails got something, not blue tongue, that really wiped them out.  Still have 3 tags, never had a chance to drop the hammer :(.  Only 2 I saw were on the way into a place and they dropped over  the hill and we never saw em again, after 3 hours we just went to another place and never saw any more.  Well, that's why it's called hunting and not target practice.  DP
