SB2 30-06
« on: November 01, 2010, 09:22:38 AM »
I took my newly aquired 30-06 to the range yesterday to sight it in.  I was on the paper in 3 shots when the ejector didn't throw out the spent shell.   >:(  I had what seemed like everything but the kitchen sink with me but no cleaning rod.    I chawked that up to experience but I also had my 45-70 Shikari with me that I had the trigger worked on and suposedly new springs installed.  I hit the shell 4 times but bad FTF.  Another gentleman was there with his Marlin lever 45-70 so I asked him if he would give the shell that didn't work in my rifle a try.  He did and it went Bang  :( .  Guess I will call the gunsmith on that one.  In any event, with the 30-06 could there be a problem with the extractor or could it just be a bad casing?  I was shooting reloads but never experienced the problem before.

Thanks and by all means don't forget to vote!!!!
Why is there never enough time to do it right but there is always enough time to do it again?

With the '06, the FAQs are full of info on chamber polishing, etc......my best cure is go all extractor.  I don't own an ejector for all the reasons you're having problems.  My .06 stuck cases on every other shot.  It is now an extractor.   It can be converted...again, see the FAQs.  There's also a lot of info there on FTF, and you'll surely bring the .45-70 around too.

Good luck, and stick aroound...there is help here.

I have a 30-06 made in 2006 I ran into the same problem ejector cases would stick now and then :The fix was to take it apart and I found the factory installed the spring on a angle .
I cleaned it up added some oil but had to straighten the spring and never had any problem since then.
I have to say the 30-06 shoots outstanding with 165 Hornady SP and IMR 4350
