Got a Free Pike Co, IL Bowhunt Offer-Need Crossbow info SAP
« on: October 21, 2010, 09:09:52 PM »
My best friend hunts a big farm in Pike Co, IL every year and said pack your gear, you are going with me this year.  I said "How much $? he said "Get in the truck!)  I am 62, 60% DAV, killed a dump truck load of deer with rifles/handguns, wife & I tried bow hunting yrs. ago, and I have an not shot in 10 yrs Browning Compound w/ 150gr broadheads on 430gr +/- Easton XX alum arrows.   I am leaning towards a Crossbow with those same broadheads(FYI they were made in my small Iowa hometown I left 51 yrs ago-lucky charm?)  My Brng Compound has a Pendulum sight, which I loved and found very accurate from a tree stand, BUT- I barely escaped a tree stand fall due to safety belt many years ago(after the bow hunt era) and my ass ain-t goin up a tree again, I don't care where I hunt).  I am familiar w/ red dot sights (42 yr LEO and long eye-relief handgun scopes). Pile on with the suggestions, I have Bass Pro/ Dick's/ Academy Sports and Sports Authority within 20 minute drives, + a couple dedicated archery shops.  Ant info is most appreciated.

I have a Horton xbow several years old now with red dot sight. Simple to draw, easy to aim, I can use it either in the ladder stand or in the teepee style pop up ground blind equally well. Cannot go wrong with a Horton, just a little practice and you will agree. Should have a variety of Horton packages at any of those retail stores you listed for a reasonable price.

good luck hunting!
that Horton shouldn't take any time at all to set up for your hunt.

I lean towards 10Point Crossbows with a Bushnell Red Dot. My red dot is several years old and has 4 adjustable reticules. I like the one with the dot inside a circle. Wicked Ridge crossbows are also made by TenPoint. Spend 20 bucks or so and get the rope with pulley cocking device. Saves your back and makes repetitive target shooting more enjoyable.
