Interesting Hornady Bullet Info
« on: November 02, 2010, 06:50:19 AM »
Just got off the phone with Hornady, and found out that the 450FTX Bushmaster bullet is the same bullet as the 50 cal SST-ML with FTX tip.  The Bushmasters are $29 per 100 vs $15 per 20 for the SST-ML.  A substantial savings after buying loose sabots!  Now I can afford to practice with the bullets I hunt with.......45 Long Colt is a 225 grain version of the same bullet, a little shorter, for $3 per 100 less.  Hmmmm, some experimenting is in order.

I think I have at least one box of the FTX bullets I bought for the M-L. I recently bought some of the black Hornady sabots from Midwayusa too. I do still have some packaged SSTs I'm working through also.

Just saw on Hornady's website, the SST-ML are $35 for 50 (no sabots).  I kinda like the $29 per Hundred Bushmasters at Cabelas price a little better.  Wish I could get my hands on 5 or 10 of the 45 Long Colts before I bought 100....

Denny-
I have been using the Hornady 325 grain flex tip in a harvester crush rib sabot the last two years, It is .458 dia while the 250 grain is .452 dia. so that is another bullet to expiriment with if the 250 is loose in your bore. I took two decent whitetail bucks last year, one dropped in its tracks, other ran 20 yards or so, will be using that bullet this year also! As you stated, they are much cheaper to shoot, about half price of buying them prepackaged. The 325 grain bullet is used for the 450 marlin and 45-70 I believe.
