7.5x55 swiss k11
« on: November 23, 2010, 04:38:04 PM »
anybody here shooting the 7.5x55 swiss  in either k31 or k11?
Ammunition seems to be pretty much a reloading situation, but brass is not hard to find and they shoot the same caliber as 308 bullets.
I picked one up in very nice condition for $100 including dies ,but because it had already been drilled & tapped, and an pachmeyer butt plate installed it had no collector value-which suited me fine-I can't use standard open sights anyway-so scoping is the only way I can shoot it.The straight pull turn bolt is rather unique-but the machine work is very fine-but what else would you expect from the country that gave us swiss watches? The K11 is reputed to be a very accurate shooter.Even though it had been drilled & tapped,I decided to just refinish it [came up beautifuly] and not cut any wood or alter it any further so with the scope it looks like a military sniper model and not a bubba'd chop job.

I picked up a K31 a couple of years ago and to date it is the most accurate mil-surp in my small collection.  I would be very surprised if your K11 would be any different.  That was a hundred dollars well spent.

My K31 shoots as well as I can see with iron sights, but then I also had a 1891/59 Mosin that shot as well.  It would have been nice to have shot these 30 or 40 years ago when my vision was A1.  Oh, by the way, I paid $130 for mine at Gander Mtn. last year, and it was in great condition.  Privi Partizan ammo is available for it.

thanks for the tip on privipartizan ammunition. As far as milsurps,I have mainly stuck with  the swede's-6.5x55 and 9.3x57,which as superbly machined-and the k11 looks to be in the same class-excellent workmanship.I haven't shot my K11 yet,got to locate /or reload some ammunition.I'm not sure what calibre they would compare with as far as domestic chamberings are concerned.Got to admit-I didn't really NEED this rifle-but after some research, decided when this one came up-especially at the price-including the dies,I couldn't pass it up....looks nice refinished too....

The Swiss 7.5 is equivalent to the .308.  SInce it has a .398 bore, there are many choices for bullets.  I have been plinking with my K31 using 13.0 gr. of Red Dot and 150 gr. RCBS cast bullets.

That straight pull spiral bolt makes it kind of ''diferent''and that as well as the legendary accuracy plus fine machining and the dies thrown in  made me buy it ....I needed it like a hole in the head-but whatever-spur of the moment purchase....if it had been an untouched milsurp,I probably wouldn't have had any fun refinishing it,but a couple of hours on the stock sanding, staining and rubbing was time well spent-and I ended up with a fine looking-and hopefully shooting-piece of history. Now I've just got to get some ammunition,7.5x55 swiss is  scarce in CANADA[and heaven help the poor miscreant who sneaks a box or two across the border-you are automatically considered a terrorist bent on insurrection-albeit with a 100 year old rifle],occasionally a supplier  brings in a case of surplus, and I shall watch for that

Try to buy some Wolf Gold or Privi ammo and use it for brass. I have a K 31 and it is a sweet shooter. FYI, the newer Redding dies stamped K-31 may not work as the K-31 actually has a little larger chamber size. The K-31 is a stronger action, so use the load data in the middle of the range and it will last forever.

The privis aren't as accurate as the GP-11 in mine but they are fine for deer hunting.  I have the dies but haven't got around to reloading for them yet.  The swiss is the best kept secret I have found.

I picked up my K11 from the gunsmith-one of the screws in the reciever had broken off,so I had him remove that and install the mount[a weird sort of thing,no idea what brand, but its about 3'' long and has a 3/8 dovetail]
Now I have to figure out what sort of optics to put on it-[I cannot shoot with open sights].Holosight?Compact scope?red dot? don't know...whatever I choose has to fit on the small rail and the 3/8'' dovetail
